Head Teacher Pre-K

MUSE Academy is seeking a Head Teacher for Preschool who will be responsible for helping to shape and deliver a unique early childhood education experience at an exciting, new independent school in Brooklyn, NY.

MUSE Academy at the Brooklyn Music School will provide students with a comprehensive humanist education, that includes, arts, languages, humanities, mathematics, and sciences, with a strong focus on music and the performing arts. MUSE Academy is targeted to open in the Fall of 2018 for students from Pre-K3 to second grade, eventually expanding up to middle school and high school. Starting in PreK3, students will receive daily classes in music and dance/movement instructed by music teachers and coordinated by the Director of Dance and the Director of Music and Performing Arts. In addition a world language teacher will teach Spanish daily. Students will progress through an arts-integrated, academically enriched curriculum, with requisite weekly after-school instrument lessons beginning in first grade. Our mission is to help children grow into fully rounded students, artists, and citizens who are highly successful academically, develop their full potential in music and the performing arts, and acquire the skills necessary to be able to thrive in a fast evolving world.

This position will report directly to Head of School. It includes effectively managing a classroom assistant, as well as collaborating with the Director of Music and Performing Arts and Director of Dance, as well as other faculty, in order to successfully integrate arts and academics.

We are seeking a flexible and creative educator with exceptional skills in early childhood pedagogy. The position requires a strong knowledge of early childhood development and a passion for teaching and our school mission. We also require leadership capacity, as well an entrepreneurial energy level and drive required to be a member of the founding team at a new, highly differentiated educational institution. Experience with music and the performing arts is an asset, but not necessary.

THIS IS A PART-TIME CONSULTING POSITION FOR FIRST YEAR, TRANSITIONING TO FULL TIME IN AUGUST OF 2018.

The job includes responsibility for helping to define and shape an arts-integrated, early childhood education at MUSE Academy , including:

  • Helping to define the vision, methodology, and curricular building blocks for an early childhood education steeped in the arts and academically advanced

  • Collaborating closely with Head of School, Directors of Music, and Director of Dance to create dense interconnections with academic subjects

  • Actively participating in Info Sessions with prospective parents to convey the experience and outcomes of a MUSE Academy education in a compelling fashion

  • Creating an environment that is student-centered, inquiry-based and allows students to reach their potential in all areas
