Director OF Vocal Arts
Born in Tbilisi, Georgia, Lina now makes Brooklyn her home base but has lived and worked in Cologne, Stuttgart, Frankfurt, Paris, and Malmo, Sweden as a professional opera singer.
She began studying piano at a music school in Tbilisi, Georgia and then after emigrating to Brooklyn with her family attended the pre-college program at Juilliard. Lina went on to obtain her Bachelor of Music degree at Juilliard, and then got a Master of Music in Opera degree from the Curtis Institute of Music.
Lina first fell in love with opera listening to Verdi’s Otello as a child. Later at Julliard, she was entranced by the voices of Billie Holiday and Nina Simone and their ability to transmit emotions and heartache in a powerful and direct way.
Lina has performed in major roles on stages across the world, including "Die Feen" and "Norma" at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, "Madam Butterfly" at the Hawaii Opera Theater, the role of Liu in "Turandot" at the Seattle Opera, Nedda in "I Pagliacci," Mimi in "La Boheme," Micaela in "Carmen" and Donna Elvira in "Don Giovanni" at the Cologne Opera in Germany, Antonia in "Tales of Hoffmann" in Stuttgart, Germany.
Lina enjoys sharing her passion for music with her students at MUSE, and believes that she is able to empower them to accomplish more both within and beyond music by teaching proper vocal technique, confidence, and presence. She focuses on why we sing, as well as how.
Lina’s students have gone on to be accepted by top-ranked conservatories and to perform on the stage, in opera, and in film. She believes that the BMS theater is a great asset to develop student’s performance skills and interact with their peers, parents, and the community.
