Head Teacher First Grade

MUSE Academy is seeking a Head Teacher for First or Second Grade who will be responsible for helping to shape and deliver a unique educational experience at an exciting, new independent school in Brooklyn, NY.

MUSE Academy at the Brooklyn Music School will provide students with a comprehensive humanist education, that includes, arts, languages, humanities, mathematics, and sciences, with a strong focus on music and the performing arts. MUSE Academy opened in the Fall of 2018 for students from Pre-K3 to Kindergarten, and will eventually expand through high school. Find more background at museacademybk.com 

We are seeking a passionate educator with very strong background in literacy, English and humanities to lead our first grade class in the 2019-20 school year. You should have the capability to design and shape the curriculum working with our Head of School and other Head Teachers and subject matter specialists.

 Students will progress through an arts-integrated, academically enriched curriculum, with requisite weekly after-school instrument lessons beginning in first grade. Our mission is to help children grow into fully rounded students, artists, and citizens who are highly successful academically, develop their full potential in music and the performing arts, and acquire the skills necessary to be able to thrive in a fast evolving world.

We are seeking a flexible and creative educator with exceptional skills in elementary pedagogy. The position requires a strong knowledge of early childhood development and a passion for teaching and our school mission. We also require leadership capacity, as well an entrepreneurial energy level and drive required to be a member of the founding team at a new, highly differentiated educational institution. Experience with music and the performing arts is an asset, but not necessary.

The job includes responsibility for helping to define and shape an arts-integrated, enriched academic environment at MUSE Academy , including:

  • Helping to design the vision, methodology, learning outcomes, and lesson plans for first grade curriculum in language, literacy, humanities and math

  • Collaborating closely with Head of School and other faculty to help create dense interconnections of music and the performing arts with academic subjects

  • Actively participating in Information Sessions with prospective parents to convey the experience and outcomes of a MUSE Academy education in a compelling fashion

  • Creating an environment that is student-centered, inquiry-based and allows students to reach their potential in all areas

Assistant Preschool teacher

MUSE Academy (www.museacademybk.com) is seeking an Assistant Preschool Teacher who will be responsible for helping to deliver a unique early childhood education experience at an exciting, new independent school in Brooklyn, NY.

MUSE Academy provides students with a comprehensive humanist education, that includes, arts, languages, humanities, mathematics, and sciences, with a strong focus on music and the performing arts. MUSE Academy is opened in the Fall of 2018 for students from Pre-K3 to kindergarten and will eventually expanding up to high school. Starting in PreK3, students receive daily classes in music and dance/movement. In addition a world language teacher teaches Spanish daily. Students will progress through an arts-integrated, academically enriched curriculum. Our mission is to help children grow into fully rounded students, artists, and citizens who are highly successful academically, develop their full potential in music and the performing arts, and acquire the skills necessary to be able to thrive in a fast evolving world.

This position will report directly to Head Preschool Teacher.

We are seeking a flexible and creative educator with exceptional skills in early childhood pedagogy. The position requires a strong knowledge of early childhood development and a passion for teaching and our school mission. We also require an entrepreneurial energy level and drive required to be a member of the founding team at a new, highly differentiated educational institution. Experience with music and the performing arts is an asset, but not necessary.

The job includes responsibility for helping to define and deliver an arts-integrated, early childhood education at MUSE Academy, including:

  • Assist with the implementation of the daily Pre-K program under the direction of the Lead teacher

  • Assist in planning and preparing the learning environment, setting up learning centers, and preparing materials and supplies for daily activities

  • Work with students as needed to review classroom instructions, assist in answering questions

  • Supervise playground activities with Lead teacher

  • Set up and store small musical instruments and art supplies

  • Help children with routine tasks (removing coats, fastening buttons, zipping zippers)

  • Accompany children to the restroom

  • Assist with the supervision of students on field trips

  • Supervise classroom when the teacher is out of the room

  • Assist in any other appropriate ways as requested by the Lead teacher or Head of School

  • Creating an environment that is student-centered, inquiry-based and allows students to reach their potential in all areas
